Information for Candidates Participating in CVTV Local Election Programming

Each year, CVTV produces local election programming for the primary and general elections to help inform viewers about candidates and issues. Programming typically includes candidate interviews and a Video Voters’ Guide. Participation in CVTV election programming is free.

2026 Election Coverage

Candidates for the following contested races will be asked to participate in our Primary Video Voters’ Guide and Candidate Interviews:

  • Clark County Auditor
  • Clark County Clerk
  • Clark County Councilor, District No. 1
  • Clark County Councilor, District No. 2

Candidates will be contacted using the information provided when they filed for office.

Video Voters' Guide

Statements are recorded at the CVTV studio in Vancouver City Hall.

Candidates should answer:
“What are your qualifications for office, and why should citizens vote for you?”

Guidelines:
  • Statements are unedited and limited to 3 minutes.
  • No posters, charts, or other visual materials may appear on screen.
  • Campaign-branded clothing or accessories are not allowed, including shirts, hats, buttons, etc.
  • Statements may not include fundraising requests or obscene, profane, libelous, or defamatory language.
  • A teleprompter is available for use.
Clothing recommendations:
  • Avoid wearing white or green.
  • Avoid stripes or busy patterns.

Candidate Interviews

Primary Election Candidate Interviews

Interviews are recorded at the CVTV studio in Vancouver City Hall.

Guidelines:
  • Interviews are unedited and limited to 10 minutes.
  • Interviews will be conducted individually with each candidate.
  • All participating candidates will answer the same questions.
  • Campaign-branded clothing or accessories are not allowed, including shirts, hats, buttons, etc.
Clothing recommendations:
  • Avoid wearing white or green.
  • Avoid stripes or busy patterns.
General Election Candidate Interviews

Interviews are recorded at the CVTV studio in Vancouver City Hall.

Guidelines:
  • Interviews are unedited and limited to 30 minutes.
  • Candidates will be interviewed side-by-side by a nonpartisan host.
  • Each participating candidate will be asked the same questions.
  • Campaign-branded clothing or accessories are not allowed, including shirts, hats, buttons, etc.
Clothing recommendations:
  • Avoid wearing white or green.
  • Avoid stripes or busy patterns.

Use of Still Images or Video Clips from CVTV Election Programming in Campaign Materials

Still images or video clips from CVTV footage, including stills or footage obtained pursuant to the Washington State Public Records Act (Ch. 42.56 RCW), is in no way intended by CVTV, the City of Vancouver, or Clark County to directly or indirectly promote or oppose any candidate for public office or any ballot proposition.

If a candidate utilizes a still image or video clip taken from CVTV election programming where the CVTV logo is visible in any campaign materials (advertisements, websites, flyers, etc.), the following disclaimer must be clearly visible on the campaign materials: “Use of CVTV footage is in no way intended by CVTV, the City of Vancouver, or Clark County to directly or indirectly promote or oppose any candidate for public office or any ballot proposition.”

If you are utilizing CVTV footage that does not display the CVTV logo or does not promote or oppose any candidate for public office or ballot proposition, there is no need to display the above disclaimer.

CVTV is the local government, non-commercial cable access channel operated and funded by the City of Vancouver and Clark County, Washington. Please note that RCW 42.17A.555 prohibits use of public facilities for the purpose of assisting a campaign for election of any person to any office or for the promotion of or opposition to any ballot proposition.
